Are you thinking?

Ray's nuances simplified, a contemporary story punctuated with the human idealism.

Pratidwandi or 'The Adversary' in my view is Ray's one of his best films.

A character dwindled, an idealist whose idealism wants to go away from him.

A lost childhood tranquility, innocent serenity metamorphoses into youth rage.

The movie captures the social conditions which prevailed in Calcutta now Kolkata

In 1970's, brilliantly imagined parallelism by Ray magnifies his vision.

Corruption, unemployment depicted as the major contemporary problems.

Pretty much diversed from Ray's earlier movies….where he first time plants his foot

In urban genre……….here he proves his true versatility keeping his true signature

Temparment.

Well written review.
Almost writing it , for one, you had asked for it, and two, because I feel there was a void that was created, for the simple reason that when you say Calcutta now Kolkata , you leave the reader thinking, what has changed?Kolkatta still sells steamed fish, and fish fry, Mamata Banerjee still says .."kolkata naa jaibe..".

What people know of Kolkata is , Rasugulla(s), Rice base meal, literature, music, an artisans' land..

So, the style is KISS :keep it simple stupid', and the writer gets his point across, although I was a little doubtful, if while this was written, he may have wanted to write a little more, as he writes "
the social conditions which prevailed in Calcutta now Kolkata ", or may be that was just a hunch, for I was on the look for a bong writing on culture, given the fact that I love reading about cultures , and a lot more , which is not consequential enough to be quoted here.

Now, that's a review on a review ;When people are good they need to be told..

Keep writing, and stay geared...
Ekta

PS : where he first time plants his foot--> should be , where he for the first time ..

Ekts,

indeed it was a small account which i gave in my post. But the fact is getting the glimpse of 70's when Calcutta had unemployment and was under the wave of Naxalite movement. As i would say literature, music and other artistic entities wont fill the empty belly.Harder realities like employment were portrayed in the movie.
